I am a nursing generalist with 50 years of experience and various clinical experiences (e.g., nursing education, neurosurgery, intensive care, emergency, hospice, etc.). I have seen significant scientific developments in our profession and the need to further develop the art of nursing through a holistic nursing lens. Just as gnostic touch preceded therapeutic touch, there are nursing practices and ways of knowing that will be forerunners of state-of-the-art holistic nursing interventions. I am a globally recognized visionary scientist whose ground-breaking work has uncovered significant mirror-viewing distress that can occur in body disfigurement due to trauma, surgery, or illness. Broadly disseminating phenomenological research findings and developing a mid-range nursing theory highlights the impact of inexpensive, holistic nursing supportive mirror-viewing interventions in the immediate aftermath of visible disfigurement. I am a proficient leader who led a year-long task force to determine holistic nursing research priorities for 2023-2026. I was a home health nursing director who pioneered three expert homecare clinical teams: cardiac, palliative, and poor eyesight (low vision). I opened an outpatient and inpatient hospice. In the community, I established a parish nursing ministry and was a founding member of a non-profit organization for women with disabilities. Currently, I teach in the PhD program at Texas Woman’s University. I am blessed to have numerous (14) PhD students who have or are studying the mirror viewing experience in different populations, i.e., widowhood, adult foster kids, AA obesity, male veterans, elderly women, and postpartum.
