Sean Reed is a holistic nursing scholar, educator, and practitioner with over two decades of experience integrating caring science, touch therapies, and palliative approaches across healthcare settings. As Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado College of Nursing, he teaches in doctoral programs with expertise in Unitary Caring Science and nursing philosophy.

Board certified as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Advanced Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse, Advanced Holistic Nurse, and Health and Wellness Nurse Coach, Dr. Reed’s scholarship focuses on holistic frameworks, particularly around touch, healing, and end-of-life care. He co-authored “Modern Sutras from Nurses: Finding Peace” with Jean Watson and co-edited “Evolving Rogerian Nursing Science: John R. Phillips’ Unique Contributions” with the Society of Rogerian Scholars.

His Unitary-Caring Conceptual Model for palliative care has been adopted internationally across five continents and underpins his TriService Nursing Research Program grant on military palliative competencies. Past President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Dr. Reed has received the Nightingale Luminary Award and CU Anschutz Chancellor’s Teaching Recognition Award. In 2025, he will serve as a Fulbright Scholar in Romania, advancing his international palliative care research.
